Welcome to the Ramapo website!

Ramapo is one of five towns of Rockland County, New York. It is the most populous and largest town in the county with 20 total communities. Ramapo borders Orange County on the west and Bergen and Passaic Counties of New Jersey on the south. The town is part of the New York Metropolitan Area and is less than an hour’s drive away from New York City.

Ramapo has a population of more than 108,000 residents. The town has a total area of 61.9 square miles with 0.7 square miles of water.

Ramapo is served by two school districts, Ramapo Central School District and East Ramapo Central School District. Additionally, the town is home to Rockland Community College, a SUNY(State University of New York) two year school.

Ramapo is served by Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern and is home to the facilities of Rockland County Department of Social Services in Pomona.

The town of Ramapo is home to part of the Harriman State Park, whose mountains and dense trees overlook most of the town’s communities. Harriman State Park’s Lake Welch and Lake Sebago have man made beaches that are only minutes away from the town.

The town of Ramapo has plenty of parkland and recreational areas. Monsey’s Lifeplex Health Club is an indoor club with a pool, tennis courts, gym and the nearby Sport-o-Rama has an indoor Ice Rink.

Public Parks such as Airmont Town Park, Eugene Levy Memorial Park, Herb Reisman Sports Complex, Orchard Hills Park and Viola Park offer a variety of sports fields such as tennis, basketball and baseball.

Private clubs include golf courses in Spook Rock Golf Course, Miniscengo Golf Club, New York Country Club, and Rustic Brook Swim & Tennis Club. Public Swimming Pools are found in Spook Rock Pool of Montebello and Saddle River Pool of Airmont. The Joseph St. Lawrence Community Center in Hillburn includes a sports field with 1,800 seating capacity and indoor facilities for multiple activities.

The town of Ramapo has train service from Metro North and New Jersey Transit along the Port Jervis/Main Line, which leads to New York City.
